Archaeology in the Classroom

Albion Archaeology are available for free school visits within Bedfordshire and can also visit schools outside of the County (where a small fee might be charged). We can do classroom sessions looking at Prehistoric Archaeology or Roman Archaeology (Key stages 2 and 3). Both of these sessions include a talk on the subject followed by a handling session using genuine Roman finds and replica finds from both periods. Teachers have commented that the sessions “related well to the Roman topic “ and that “the session is really valuable to us and the children thoroughly enjoy it. We really appreciate Albion Archaeology supporting our curriculum work”.

We can also tailor some talks for schools on the archaeology of the surrounding area, especially if we have a site nearby.

The sessions also cover other areas of the curriculum, including numeracy, and many of the students come away from the sessions very keen and saying they want to be archaeologists. Children have said “my favourite part was feeling the animal bones”, “I love your job”, “the box of animal bone, pottery and stone were cool” and “it is so amazing”.
